Bula bula my friends
Great to know you so happily on your way. What's your tacking angle?
I'll probably be heading over for Nananu-I-Ra on Monday, arriving there on Tuesday.
Here's a first update on communications in Savu Savu and Fiji generally. As before, it seems that Vodafone has the better offering (partially 4G) than Digicel. I've bought a 4G USB stick for FJD 59, without being specific they first gave me a 3G stick for FJD 29, which works perfectly in my little router. Of course, you could also use your mobile phone and make a hotspot. Tariffs seem similar as two years ago roughly FJD 1 for 100 MB on a slightly regressive scale. However, I've heard that every Friday shall be a very attractive FJD 20 (or maybe 25) top up giving you 8 GB of data.
Here in Savu Savu, the Copra Shed is offering its own WiFi (pay online with credit card). People can pick it up with their laptops, but have difficulties to get throughput, whereas it works rather well with the RogueWave. A very attractive FJD 30 for 7 days of unlimited data. I've taken this and updated my Windows and everything else.
You'll go eventually have to the Vodafone way, but in Savu Savu you might be better served with the Copra Shed WiFi.
Looking forward to seeing you soon, maybe in Nananu-I-Ra?
Philip
