As we expected last night was a series of frequent and more powerful squalls with winds up to 50 knots at times. Learnativity handles it well and just gets a bit noisy and rolly. The wind shifted to the north and that puts us more in line with the swell so we roll much more and makes moving around a bit of a challenge but is fine when you are sitting and reading. I used the time to try to get our sat phone talking to the laptops properly and be able to get Emails and blog postings up on the net and after way too much time as of this morning (Friday now) I’ve finally been able to get one of the laptops working and so you should be now receiving either Emails or seeing the blog postings appear up on the Learnativity blog at http://learnativity.typepad.com and there should also be updates on Twitter and FaceBook with links to the blog postings. The rest of the time I used to look after some boat work while we are anchored and have us in even better shape for the longer passage down to Fiji. Linda has been busy with her mini onboard herb garden and we now have parsley, cilantro and basil plants sprouting nicely and are looking forward to have this renewable supply of herbs to augment our meals. Weather wise it was gray skies with squalls passing through every few hours so it was a quiet rainy day aboard Learnativity with not too much exciting to report. I’ve got a new download of weather files and all looks good between here and Fiji so we will probably take off tomorrow (Friday here) morning, head out the NE pass out of Mili and turn SSE on our way to Fiji. We will let wind, weather and whim determine our route and whether we stop in at places like Kiribati (used to be Gilbert Islands) and Tuvalu and whether we will make first Fiji landfall in the tiny isolated Fijian island of Rotuma which is about 320nm north of all the other Fijian islands, or head into Savusavu over to the east if we can get that far east or else Lautoka on the far west side of Fiji. We will keep you posted as we go and thanks for joining us. Linda, Wayne & Ruby the Wonderdog
Great stories, Wayne, as usual. On my first real long distance sail to Mexico we also experienced dozens of dolphins playing with our bow...no wonder Linda spent the time out there watching them! Already doing your handy repairs..you sure have learned a lot! I'm so happy for you and Linda..and Ruby...how lucky you all are. Keep us posted. I'm tracking you on Google Earth again, which of course brings your journey to life! BTW Google Earth has no photos from Mili, so leave one behind (post to Google Earth) unless you've already departed.
